Hello to my furry friends and their hu-moms and dads! My name is Casper Elvis (cuz I' the king!). I'm a Bichon Frise and proud of it! If you don't know what kind of breed that is, check out my picture! I am six years old and have lived with my mom since I left my brothers and sisters when I was 4 1/2 months old. Mom calls me her "heart" puppy; I think that means she loves me a lot.
Oh, just a side note about my picture - not all Bichons come in costumes, but I like to dress up - Halloween is my favorite day of the whole year because all these kids come to see me! I was pretty sick when I was little - lots of allergies and stuff. Mom took me to a holistic vet because my regular doc wanted to put me on prednisone, like, forever! I had to get a bunch of tests to figure out what I was allergic to and some of them I didn't like. The new doc was cool, though, and there was a cat there I liked to try to play with. So then, mom cooked for me and my sister, Mini. She made us chicken and vegetables and oatmeal and rice and lots of yummy stuff for about a year. The holistic doctor talked to her about a raw diet, but that was just too gross for mom then. Mom has been a vegetarian since 1990. Well, she is technically a pescetarian now, cuz she eats fish. I don't understand why she doesn't want to eat raw meat, but as long as she feeds it to us, I can be OK with that. When she started giving us raw pet food, I could hardly believe my taste-buds; Oh my yummy goodness! I started to get a lot better. I wasn't so itchy and scratchy all the time and I stopped getting as many hot spots and healing crises. But we weren't out of the woods yet, cuz I have a very sensitive tummy. As time goes by, mom says my immune system gets stronger and stronger and I can have more variety of stuff. For a long time, I could only eat buffalo meat and then mom added some duck (I sure like that) and then some rabbit. I get to eat elk now! And then there's all the healthy treats we get to test, like Love Your Pet Wild Game Jerky and Aunt Jeni's Dogitos - wow, that stuff is tasty. Mom says the pet supplements help too, but I can't really taste them when she puts them in my food. Scarlette and I get buffalo bones too and we get to be the guinea pigs for all the other stuff mom sells. Mom says this is a very important job, cuz we wouldn't want you guys to have to taste anything bad or bad for you. Mom has learned a lot of stuff because of me; she calls it a journey. That's OK as long as I don't have to ride in the car; I don't like to ride in the car. Scarlette doesn't really like to ride in the car either, but she sure likes the food here! I'll let her tell you about herself. I'll keep in touch; mom says I'm in charge of Casper's Corner - she says its still developing so I don't know exactly what to expect. We hope you like myfreshpet.com - come back and visit us often cuz we'll have new products and some great educational stuff and pictures and stories coming up! My name is Scarlette Blossom. I am the newest member of the family. Oh my, I don't know what to say (ducks her head). I am really a very shy fluff, you know. I don't think I've ever been quoted before! Mom says I was a professional mommy until I came to live with her in September, 2005. That sounds like a nice description, but the truth is I was a puppy mill dog and it was a very rough life. I had to stay in my cage all the time and I had so many puppies I was like the little old dog who lived in a shoe! Well, enough about that, it isn't a pretty story, but if you want to learn about the truth behind puppy mills, Mom will have some links around here somewhere. I'm still very shy around other people; mom says I wasn't socialized, so now she takes me lots of places and has all her friends come to see me. She says I am very special. I love my new home and my brother and sister. I do everything Casper does and some of own antics, too! I get the bestest food here! My rescue mom said I wasn't a very good eater, but I didn't have the heart to tell her that the dry stuff she fed me tasted like cardboard. I cry for my breakfast and especially my dinner cuz it just taste so good. And then, I lick Casper's bowl! I get something called pet dietary supplements in my food cuz mom says I'm detoxing. I don't know what that means, but I sure feel good! Raw meat and bones are just right for a dog of my sensibilities! Casper says I should tell you about my middle name - it was going to be Savannah, but mom changed it to Blossom, cuz I blossom every day. I have started doing the Bichon "wave" and mom is just nutty about it! Oh, and the costume thing - I only did it for mom - I prefer fancy t-shirts... I kind of like this spokes-puppy thing! I'll have lots more to tell you soon! Last? Why am I last? Well, you always save the best for last, right. Oh, those d-o-g's! They are the bane of my existence. Okay, I am being a bit dramatic, but it is what I do best, after all! I am Cleo Kittereena, the dowager queen of the house, being the oldest at 17, and certainly the prettiest, I have long gray, black and white fur and big, beautiful green eyes. Mom's been feeding me premium pet food for the last many years and I no longer have to endure those terrible vaccinations. Mom thinks that may be why I have outlived my 2 feline sisters, Whitney and Wizard, and I am reasonably healthy too. I do have a bit of CRF (that's cuz my kidneys are old), but I get fluids under the skin and I feel pretty good. I have all my own teeth and I've only had to have them cleaned 2 times in my entire life! Clean living and healthy pet food really make a difference! You know I'm right, now! And you don't have to go to the vet as often when you eat right; now that is enough said! Mom is selling some very healthy stuff (pet food, allergy-free treats, and more) for your furkids and we'll be bringing you lots of tips and stories, too. Mom says I can have a featured column in the newsletter, if I want; I'll see if I can fit it into my nap schedule... Zeus Hi! Oh, this is so exciting, all these people and furkids are going to be listening to me; yippee! Oh, sorry, I get a little carried away; I'm just a baby; only 7 months old (at least I was when I wrote this). My name is Zeus - I don't have a middle name cuz mom said "Zeus" just said it all! I came to live with mom, Casper and that cat she calls Cleo (that I'm not allowed to bark at!) when I was only 5 months old. I came from a rescue shelter. The lady who took me home from that very same shelter when I was 8 weeks old had to give me back because I chased her 4 cats. I don't see the problem; if something runs away from you, its cuz it wants to play chase, right? Oh well, I have Casper and mom now and I am so happy! I get to go outside, even in the dark and the rain, which, let me tell you, was a new experience for me a couple of months ago. I'm still not sure about the rain; I don't think I like it. Mom got me and Casper rain coats; he really hates the rain. This is kind of funny, too, cuz he doesn't mind getting a bath. Now that is something I DO NOT like. Wow, the first time mom put me in the sink, my eyes nearly bugged right out of my head. And that's saying something, cuz I'm a Boston Terrier mix and my eyes are somewhat protruberant (big word, huh?) already. Mom thinks I might be mixed with Chihuahua; she says I have that "attitude!"¨ I hope that's a good thing. Oh, and I go to school too! Well, anyway, the healthy pet food here is pretty amazing. I was getting some kibble from the store at my old house and I ate it, but wow! this raw meat diet is amazing! Mom says I used to have dandruff, but now that I get that Aunt Jeni's fish oil, my coat is so shiny you could see yourself in it; except that I'm mostly black. I have a little white on my chest and some beautiful (if I do say so myself) brindle markings on my front paws and jaw. Oh, and I have one white hair on the top of my head! You probably can't see that in the picture. My mom feeds us the yummiest stuff. I get organic chicken, venison and lamb. Beef used to be a little rich for my tummy and I "fluffed,"¨ as my hu-cousin Mira calls it. Whew, that was a bit stinky, too! Mom says now that my tummy is used to raw meat I can try the beef again. I am on my best behavior when mom fixes breakfast and dinner. I sit on my rug and wait. I am mostly patient but sometimes a little bark escapes cuz I'm so excited, cuz it is so really, really yummy! Then mom gives me "the look!" and I go back to waiting patiently. Mom says I can be the co-editor of the newsletter and be Casper's assistant. Hmmm, I think Casper should be MY assistant! Update: I have moved to a new home cuz I needed more attention and someone to be home with me all day. I live with my new mom, Diane and I get to go lot's of places with her and her grandkids. I also get to go to doggy day care a couple of times a week and play with other dogs. This is the life, man! My moms keep in touch so you may hear more from me from time to time. Gotta run, someone is at the door for me... Mini Hi there! I'm Mini Muffin (aka Mini Minerva). I'm a Bichon Frise like Casper and Scarlette, can you tell? I bet you think I look like a puppy in this picture, huh? Nope! I am 13 years old here - no kidding! I lived with Mom and Casper and all the cats from 10 years old to just 2 days short of my 15th birthday. I received a sudden call from the Rainbow Bridge and I had to leave them though. Aside from being the cutest little thing that ever was, my most notable claim to fame was the Bichon "wave." If you aren't sure what that is, it is sort of like begging, but you wave your paws together. Trust me, it is irresistable! You can get almost anything you want if you know this trick - yup! When mom started feeding me healthy home made and then raw pet food, I loved it and I got healthier too! I had a history of bladder stones when mom took me in and I had to have a special food or medicine. When she switched me to healthy pet food, I didn't need the medicine anymore. I took a special supplement for my bladder and another one for my bones and I acted like a puppy for a really long time. I really liked the new treats too; but my favorite treat of all time was snap peas; bananas and watermelon were a close second.! I would bark at my dog walker until she gave me extra ones. I knew my way around her, alright! Hehe! Wizard Hello, my name is Wizard Ginevra. It is very nice of you to visit us at myfreshpet.com. We hope you will find everything you need for your pets and some things you didn't even know you needed! We have very high quality products here - organic raw meats and chicken for dogs and cats, grain-free treats and healthy pet supplements for the health of your furry family. I live with Mini now, at the Rainbow Bridge. Before that I lived with Mom for 17.5 years. I was her favorite... no really, I was! I would sit on her shoulder and cuddle while she brushed her teeth and I did the silent meow. If Mini thinks that Bichon "wave" can get a human to do your bidding, she should have tried the silent meow. Its a killer! Whitney Greetings, my name is Whitney Madonna. I'm named for 2 very famous entertainers - can you guess who? I was the first! Mom's very first cat, that is. Well she had a kitten when she was little, but not for very long, so it doesn't really count, you know. I was a very special cat (I'm at the Rainbow Bridge with Mini and Wizard now). Wizard and I are still best friends, and Cleo and me were too. Wizard never really accepted Cleo, she wanted to be the baby all the time. Mom thinks I was part siamese because she said I talked like one - whiney and often. Hey, I had a lot to say! When Casper came to live with us, I would stand in front of his crate and tell him stories and make sure he understood that I was the boss. I never could get through to that pup! |
